Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has opened up on his rivalry with Pitso Mosimane, saying past clashes between the two coaches do not come into play on Saturday.
The 67-year-old confirmed on Friday that he has received his work permit and will be on the sidelines against Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League final.
Baxter and Mosimane have faced each other 10 times so far, with Mosimane winning five clashes, while Baxter has ended up victorious thrice.
However, the Englishman insisted that Saturday’s CAF Champions League final will not be affected by results of the past.
“Pitso has a very, very long history with the competition on the African continent and I’ve got great respect for Pitso as a coach,” he told reporters.
“And we’ve had a few very interesting battles. But I have to say that I think, on the night, the experience of games that happened five or six years ago, I don’t think that will affect the game on the night.
“But certainly the knowledge of African football puts Pitso in a in a very secure position to coach his own team.
“I think every game has more than one scenario, it can play out in more than one ways. And as we’ve seen in the Euros, as we’ve seen in earlier World Cup games, there are upsets, there are games that go against what everybody believes will happen.”
