Mendieta Scores Brace In Saudi

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch playmaker Junior Mendieta scored his first brace in Saudi Arabia for Pablo Franco Martin’s Al-Faisaly.

Mendieta joined the Saudi Yelo League side in the January window as a free agent after parting ways with Greek Super League side FC Volos.

Lured to the Gulf by the former AmaZulu head coach, who has been a keen admirer of his talents, they are fighting for survival this season.

The Argentine scored his first goal for the club in his second start in the 1-1 draw against Al-Jubail and has now netted a brace at Al-Jandal.

The victory puts Al-Faisaly in 13th place, and they have opened a seven-point gap to the relegation spots.

When Pablo Franco joined the club on 30 December 2024, they were 15th, level on points with the first relegation spot. However, after a run of three wins, six draws and five defeats they have managed to open a gap between themselves and the relegation spots.
