Percy Tau has broken his silence on his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to Al Ahly and explained why he left the Premier League side.
The 27-year-old, who was confirmed as Hugo Broos’ vice-captain for Bafana Bafana, says he is happy that his future has finally been resolved.
Tau joined Al Ahly from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal reported to be worth €1.8 million last week and now spoke for a first time publicly about his move.
“I’m happy, I’m well. I feel good about myself,” he told reporters.
“It happens when the transfer window is open. Some of us are trying to get a new opportunity and I had to move.
“The move came as a surprise to most but to me it was (because of) me not playing, game time.
“And of course there are many factors to it but I won’t be sitting and exposing every detail of it but I’m happy about it and my family is happy.
“I know many South Africans are happy to see me play and in a new environment.”
Tau joined Brighton in 2018 but made just six appearances for the club after having to go on three loan stints with Union Saint-Gilloise, Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht before finally receiving his UK work permit in January.
