SAFA CT Investigate Match Fixing Over Freak Results

The SAFA Cape Town have opened an investigation after the LFA Promotional playoffs kicked off this past week under controversy due some freak score-lines with 58 goals scored in two matches.

A week ago, eight groups of promotional playoffs for the SAB League were confirmed with Group H being identified as the ‘Group of Death’. Coca Cola amateur champions Diadora FC was amongst the teams in the group with, Two For Joy of Strand, Rebels from Khayelitsha, West Coast and Eletric City.

On Wednesday evening, Diadora FC shared the spoils with Two For Joy in a 2-2 draw. Meanwhile, Rebels defeated West Coast by 1-0 the same night.

Going to day two Rebels was topping the group and they had Eletric City to battle with who they hammered by 8-0 and Diadora picked up their first three points beating West Coast 3-0.

Things started to be tight and one could see that the group might be decided on goal difference as only number one will make it to the quarter-finals. Two For Joy ran riot beating Eletric City 12-1, while Diadora were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Rebels.

Diadora was sitting top of the group but Two For Joy had a game to play against Rebels which they won by 4-1 and went top of the group.

Going to the last game of the group they were both on seven points but Two For Joy had a +10 of goal difference and needed a win against West Coast. On the other side Diadora needed to make up seven goals in their last game against Eletric City and hope that Two For Joy don’t win with a big margin of goals.

Both games kicked off at the same time and in the first half both Two For Joy and Diadora where leading by 2-0, which meant that Two For Joy would go through to the next round.

But screws where turned in the second half, with Diadora scoring 33 goals and Eletric United scoring one with the final score 35-1. On the other field Two For Joy scored 20 goals in the second half to make it 22-0.

At the end of the day, Diadora FC topped the group and made it to the quarter-finals on goal difference of +38, while Two For Joy had +36.

SAFA Cape Town vice president Andrew Bothman confirmed to this publication that there’s still an investigation happening, as both results are unfamiliar in the football world.

“The results are true people are not making them up,” Andrew Bothman told iDiski Times.

When he was asked, if they suspect any foul-play from these two games and if the quarter-final draw has been done, he did confirm that as of now Diadora has gone through.

“Yes, as it stands Diadora is going through up until the investigation is done. There’s still investigation going on I can’t talk say much,” he added.
