The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the Africa Cup of Nations will remain in Cameroon in January amid doubts over their readiness to host the bilineal event.
This week reports emerged that the AFCON could be moved to Qatar or Morocco due to Cameroon’s infrastructure delays – which sparked major concern due to the country already stripped of the tournament for Egypt in 2019.
However, CAF president Patrice Motsepe called for calm and said Cameroon are ‘95% complete’ to host the 33rd edition of the continental showpiece which was also postponed by one year due to the effects Covid-19 pandemic.
Motsepe also stated that he was ‘confident’ a ‘successful’ event will be showcased by Cameroon in line with the world-class standards expected for a continental football tournament after visiting the country earlier this year.
