AmaZulu Secure 2nd, Leopards Relegated
AmaZulu secured second spot, Black Leopards were relegated, Orlando Pirates moved to third, while there was a hat trick for Lebogang Manyama as Kaizer Chiefs beat Golden Arrows, as all eight matches in the DStv Premiership were played on Wednesday evening.
Leopards lost 3-1 to Cape Town City, and with Chippa United and Tshakhuma drawing, their relegation was confirmed.
With Arrows losing, Pirates moved to third after beating Baroka.
AmaZulu 1-0 Swallows
AmaZulu beat Swallows 1-0 at Kings Park Stadium.
After a goalless first half, AmaZulu were awarded a penalty two minutes into the second. Thapelo Xoki made no mistake and put Usuthu into the lead.
It was enough to give Benni McCarthy’s team the win and secure second spot and CAF Champions League football next season.
Baroka 1-2 Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates moved into third spot after beating Baroka 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Baroka grabbed the lead in the 45th minute as Denwin Farmer scored a great goal. But Pirates were level in first half stoppage time as Gabadinho Mhango’s deflected free kick beat Oscarine Masuluke.
Pirates grabbed the lead in the 87th minute, as Terrence Dzvukamanja headed in a Wayde Jooste cross.
Bloemfontein Celtic 0-2 Mamelodi Sundowns
Champions Sundowns picked up a good away win as they beat Celtic 2-0 at the Dr Molemela Stadium.
Peter Shalulile put Sundowns into the lead in the 11th minute as he followed up to head in after Haashim Domingo’s initial effort had struck the crossbar.
It was enough to give the champions a narrow lead at halftime.
The Namibian made it 2-0 to Sundowns in the 65th minute, a fine header from a Lyle Lakay corner. Shalulile’s 13th of the season.
Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 Golden Arrows
Lebogang Manyama scored a hat trick as Chiefs beat Arrows 3-2 at the FNB Stadium.
Michael Gumede gave Arrows the lead in the 22nd minute, making sure of it on his second attempt, after Bruce Bvuma saved his initial shot. There was a valiant effort from Erick Mathoho to clear it off the line, but the ball was ruled to have cross the line.
Chiefs were level in the 32nd minute, as Lebogang Manyama was on hand to finish off from a cross from Willard Katsande. 1-1 at half-time.
Arrows were back in the lead just after the hour the hour mark, after Mathoho conceded an own goal, heading in his own net.
But Chiefs fought back again, and Manyama added his second in the 73rd minute, chipping over Sifiso Mlungwana, after a good assist from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Manyama had his hat trick five minutes later, once again assisted by Ngcobo.
Cape Town City 3-1 Black Leopards
City came from a goal down to beat Leopards 3-1 at Cape Town Stadium, and confirm Lidoda Duvha’s relegation.
Leopards grabbed the lead in the 16th minute as Isaac Masia headed in from a free kick.
City looked to be level two minutes later, as Surprise Ralani scored from a free kick, but he took it quickly and caught the Leopards play off guard, and while the referee initially allowed it, after consultation with the fourth official for a few minutes, he disallowed it.
Leopards took the lead into the break, but City were level in the 57th minute mark as Fagrie Lakay finished neatly after being set up by Mpho Makola.
And two minutes later, having just come on, Nigerian Abdul Ajagun made it 2-1 to City, as he finished off a cross from Terrence Mashego.
City were 3-1 up in the 84th minute, as Ajagun scored his second after a lay off from Tashreeq Morris, to secure the victory
Tshakhuma 0-0 Chippa United
TTM and 10 man Chippa played to a goalless draw at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Chippa were reduced to ten just before the end of the first half as Nyiko Mobbie was shown a red card, and at the break it remained goalless.
Neither team were able to find a winner in the second half and it ended goalless.
Chippa remain 15th with one game to play
Stellenbosch 0-0 TS Galaxy
It was a goalless draw between Stellenbosch and Galaxy at the DC Stadium.
There were no goals in out in Stellenbosch, as both teams had to settle for a point.
SuperSport United 2-0 Maritzburg United
SuperSport picked up a good win at home as they beat Maritzburg 2-0 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
Bradley Grobler put the home team into the lead in the 18th minute, tapping in at the far post.
Grobler’s 15th goal of the season gave the home team a 1-0 lead at the break.
And with twenty minutes to Grobler made it 16 in the season, as he headed in to make it 2-0.
