AmaZulu have announced a press conference, where the club is expected to announce their new Head Coach, with all reports suggesting it will be Benni McCarthy.
UPDATE: AmaZulu had originally scheduled the press conference for Sunday, but it was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances and rescheduled for Monday.
The former Cape Town City coach has been strongly linked to take over from Ayanda Dlamini, who stepped down at the beginning of the week.
While a number of coach’s names have been suggested, the appointment of McCarthy seems also in line with the ambitions of new owner Sandile Zungu, who since taking over the club, has not been shy to speak of where he wants the club to be.
AmaZulu have made a number of big signings this season, and just last week unveiled former Chippa United captain Veli Mothwa, while Phakamani Mahlambi joined on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amigo Memela, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Augustine Mulenga, Limbikani Mzava, Xolani Mlambo and Siphelele Mthembu are also some of the high profile players who joined this season.
Cape Town City was McCarthy’s first head coach role, and he led the team to MTN8 success in 2018. City finished fifth in the league in McCarthy’s first season in charge, while they finished fourth in his second. He left just over three months into his third season, after a poor run of form.
