Both DStv Premiership matches played on Wednesday, Chippa United versus Cape Town City, and Golden Arrows versus Baroka, ended in goalless draws.
Chippa United 0-0 Cape Town City
Chippa United and Cape Town City played to a goalless draw at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Wednesday afternoon.
It was Cape Town City who showed the early intent, looking to make up from their defeat to Chippa in the Nedbank Cup four days earlier.
In his first start for City this season, Aubrey Ngoma caused Chippa some early problems, as he combined well with Thabo Nodada, but Ayanda Mtshali’s goal wasn’t really threatened.
It took 21 minutes for Chippa’s first shot in anger, but Peter Leeuwenburgh made a good save with his foot to deny Nyiko Mobbie.
With the stadium covered in a low fog, City dominated possession, but it wasn’t converted into goal opportunities and at half time it remained goalless.
Justin Shonga came close for City in the 54th minute, but his header from an Ngoma cross went just wide.
But throughout the match clear cut chances were missing, as both teams struggled in the final third.
Though Chippa almost stole it in the 86th minute after Thato Mokeke lost possession to Avela Cezu, who set Peter Maloisane up but he shot just wide.
But in the end the teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Golden Arrows 0-0 Baroka
Golden Arrows and Baroka played to a goalless draw in the DStv Premiership at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It was an open end-to-end first half, but neither team had their radars set on the goals it seems, and both goalkeeper hardly had to make a save in the goalless opening 45 minutes.
It was much of the same in the second half, with the better chances going the way of the home team, but still neither side threatened the goalmouths.
A second goalless draw for the day.
