Bafana Recognition Motivates Arrows Stars

Golden Arrows duo Pule Mmodi and Sbonelo Cele have not been adversely affected by missing out on the Bafana Bafana squad set for Europe, according to head coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

Cele (20) and Mmodi (29) were both named in Hugo Broos’ provisional squad set to face France and Guinea this month but weren’t in the final 23-man squad.

However, both players played a crucial role in Arrows’ 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening, which Seema believes was down to wanting to be included in future squads.

“I don’t want to say they were dropped because they never even set foot in training with Bafana Bafana, but to be recognised to be in the [national team] pool, to be in the database, that shows there’s something the coach can see,” Seema said.

“So it never [demorolised them], it actually motivated them so that when the coach comes back from the tour, he must make sure that he still remembers they are there.

“So it was the motivation for them and I think you could see from the performances they put in today, I think it’s not about being cut, they know they’re in the national team database, they’re in the set-up, which is important and we want to add more.”

The KZN outfit is currently 11th in the DStv Premiership and only one point off from the top-eight with a game in hand over Sekhukhune United.
