Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks, who has aspirations of playing in Europe, says everyone in the national camp is eager and ready to play against Ethiopia in their crucial World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Bafana are top of Group G after the first two matches in the qualifiers, and could make huge in roads into securing the group if they can get positive results in this weeks back-to-back games against the East African nation.
Brooks is one of the new faces in the Hugo Broos Bafana generation, having only earned his first cap a few months ago, and after a solid debut, he continued to impress in the Cosafa Cup, earning his chance in these qualifiers.
“It’s really exciting for me to get another one, and it’s not just any other call up, it’s for the World Cup qualifiers,” Brooks told SAFA media.
“So for me it’s really exciting, so I’m learning a lot, and that for my career is something that I’ve always wanted so I’m just really honoured and excited to get another national call up.”
The 20-year-old says that while there are a few new faces in camp, the majority were involved in the Zimbabwe and Ethiopia games, and they are looking to build on what they achieved last month.
“It’s more or less the same as the first one, there is a few guys that have come into the team, there has been a few changes but it’s more or less the same from the previous camp, everyone’s eager to go out and play against Ethiopia,” Brooks continued.
The TS Galaxy midfielder says he wants to keep improving, and hopes his performances can earn him a move to Europe.
“My hope is to just continue doing what I’m doing, perform at my highest level and then hopefully I can also with all of these performances get a chance to go overseas,” Brooks added.
“I’m looking at going to Belgium at the moment and if not Belgium, I’d like to go to Italy or Spain.”
