Chiefs Coach On Khune Absence

Stuart Baxter has revealed why Itumeleng Khune was not in the squad to face to TS Galaxy on Sunday, saying it was not due to an injury.

Khune was the only chance in Baxter’s line-up in comparison to their MTN8 quarter-final clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The absence comes as a surprise after Baxter said that Khune would be his Nr.1 and also remain the club’s captain.

However, Baxter explained that Khune’s absence was not based on an injury and also not due to his performance but he felt that Bvuma would be better suited to their opponents on the night.

“Itu, there is nothing wrong with him. Nothing he did against Sundowns (was wrong). We just thought that this would be a longer game from their side as it turned out it was,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about Khune’s absence.

“It was going to be a more mobile, out of your penalty area sort of goalkeeper’s role and we thought Bruce was the best one of our four suited to that.”

Khune has now featured in two games for Chiefs this season, the Carling Black Label Cup and the MTN8, while Bvuma started the league opener and Brendon Petersen came of the bench in the Carling Cup.
