Chiefs Remain Coy On Arrows Fixture

Kaizer Chiefs have remained coy on whether they will honour their next DStv Premiership fixture amid the Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena.

After moving into second place in the league after the 3-1 Soweto Derby win over Swallows, Chiefs communicated to the Premier Soccer League that 31 Covid-19 positive cases were recorded at the club – forcing a temporary closure of the Village.

Amakhosi were seeking postponement of their fixture against Cape Town City at FNB Stadium – in which the Citizens honoured the tie due to the PSL not stating whether the game was called off.

As things stand, the precedent from last season suggests a walkover result would be the standard practice with all 32 PSL teams agreeing that Covid-19 positive cases should not be the basis of a postponement.

Chiefs had asked for the City match, Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United to be rescheduled and after last weekend’s debacle that’s brought major confusion – they’ve yet to communicate their stance of the game scheduled for the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

“We have no answer to your questions. The last [question] about CT City is the update we issued on Friday and nothing on Arrows yet,” Maphosa said, as per TimesLive.

Stuart Baxter’s side have dropped to fourth place since their last clash against the Dube Birds with 22 points from their opening 13 league games.
