CT City En Route For Chiefs Clash

Cape Town City are en route to Johannesburg for their scheduled fixture against Kaizer Chiefs amid calls from the Soweto giants to have the game postponed.

Chiefs released an official statement on Friday morning stating they’ve written the Premier Soccer League to have their next five fixtures postponed after a Covid-19 outbreak that’s forced them into closing Naturena Village.

This publication understands 18 players and the entire technical team has been ruled out amongst the 31 that tested positive this week.

In their previous clash in the 3-1 victory over Swallows in the Soweto Derby, head coach Stuart Baxter revealed a few players were ruled out through the novel coronavirus and they named one player short on the bench – while assistant coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard were also absent.

While the PSL is currently engaging on the matter and how to move forward, a precedent for a similar case was set last season when the now-defunct Cape United were forced into a walkover result against Cape Town Spurs.

The Citizens are currently heading to Cape Town International Airport for their scheduled flight at 16h00, iDiski Times has learnt – with no official response to the appeal from Chiefs from the PSL as yet.

Attempts to reach Chiefs for clarification of their preparations for the game proved unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
