Fadlu Davids has commented on the coaching situation at Orlando Pirates after Josef Zinnbauer resigned earlier this week.
The 40-year-old represented the Buccaneers at SuperSport’s launch even for the new DStv Premiership campaign.
There is still some unclarity as to who will lead Pirates after Zinnbauer resigned, but Davids says him and Mandla Ncikazi were given the mandate to oversee the club’s first match against Stellenbosch FC this weekend.
“There’s no title. It’s just about coach Mandla and I getting the job done on Saturday,” he said when speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu at the launch event.
Yes, we come a long way. We’ve worked together at Maritzburg United before. We have a similar football idea, similar way of seeing football, approaching football – high intensity, good football, without the ball, a hard-working team, a high pressing team.
“So our ideas are very much aligned and that makes it very easy to work with.”
Davids also insisted that Pirates are only looking at themselves ahead of their DStv Premiership opener against Stellenbosch on Saturday.
“It’s not really about Stellenbosch at this moment. It’s about the Orlando Pirates,” he added.
“It is about us getting the best out of our players. It’s about us and squeezing that potential that’s lying dormant in our players to be able to play good football, but first and foremost to get the result.”
