Kaizer Chiefs star Keagan Dolly has opened up on his friendship with Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro but insisted it wasn’t the reason why he joined Amakhosi.
The trio formed a formidable front three at Mamelodi Sundowns, which saw them claim Telkom Knockout, CAF Champions League and the league title under coach Pitso Mosimane.
Dolly now explained that even after he left Sundowns, Khama Billiat had stayed in touch with him and that the duo is really close with Leonardo Castro as well.
“Obviously myself and Khama have a relationship since our Ajax Cape Town days, and even when I was in France and he was playing for Sundowns back then we still spoke almost every day and he always checks up on me,” he told Thomas Mlambo on Ultimate Sports Show.
“And you can see that it’s not just something that happens on the field, it’s a relationship both on and off the field, and we’re very close with Castro.
“Even when he couldn’t speak English, but we showed him around and got used to everything, and it’s something that won’t go away.”
However, he also insisted that he didn’t join Chiefs to reunite with his former colleagues.
“But that wasn’t the main reason why I joined Kaizer Chiefs, it was when I spoke to Bobby Motaung, when I spoke to the chairman,” he added.
“It just felt right, it felt like where I belong, you know, and even though I knew that we could reunite again with Khama and Castro, but overall it was just a personal decision, where I felt like I could kick-start my career again and just enjoy football.”
