City & Chiefs share The Spoils

Cape Town City held Kaizer Chiefs cancelled each other out at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday evening, with the draw seeing Amakhosi move into third place on the log.

Both teams entered the game on the back of knockouts in the Nedbank Cup and after their fixture of the first half of the season has not been played and is still in the courts.

Tonight’s game started off slow and was rare on chances in the first half, with both teams being focussed on stability in defence.

Katlego Mashego created the best chance of the first stanza, but his shot from a tight angle was parried by Brandon Petersen.

Keagan Dolly had a shot blocked inside the box by Mashego as the game heated up before the break before the teams entered the break goalless.

The second half continued much like the first with both teams equalling each other out for large parts and shots flying high and wide.

Chiefs ended the game without a shot on target and now failed to score in three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Substitute Khanyisa Mayo had the best chance to open the score but his shot went past the post in the 86th minute.

The draw saw Chiefs move to 29 points, moving about Royal AM based on their better goal difference, while City remained in ninth position.

Other results:

Royal AM 1-0 Sekhukhune United [Letsoalo]

Maritzburg 2-1 SuperSport [Samu, Human; Donn]
