CT City Respond To PSL’s Chiefs Decision

Cape Town City have released an official statement on the latest circular by the Premier Soccer League about their December fixture against Kaizer Chiefs.

On Thursday, the league had sent a circular to all chair persons of it’s member clubs, explaining the way forward on the matter about the December fixture, which Amakhosi failed to honour after a serious Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena, while City and the referees were present at a closed FNB Stadium.

In the circular, which iDiski Times has seen, the league stated that a hearing at the High Court is set for 10 May, however the fixture will be scheduled and played before then.

It also stated that should the court rule in favour of the PSL then the match – whichever result on the pitch – would be ruled as 3-0 against Chiefs.

City have now stated that they will not partake in the rescheduled game and have told the PSL.

“Regrettably it has been brought to our attention that Circular No.16 of the National Soccer League has become a public document which leaves us no alternative but to declare that we distance ourselves from it’s content,” the club stated.

“The insinuations that we are party to or part of this decision is untrue. We categorically do not agree to this process and have responded in writing to the league and the parties on two occasions now, reserving our rights as a club to defend our position in this matter.”
