Teko Questions Chiefs & Pirates Ambition

Teko Modise has questioned the inactivity of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the January transfer window.

The former Pirates and Downs midfielder was present at the launch of the new Sundowns Series, an original series on the club’s YouTube channel, celebrating some of the club’s biggest stars, and discussed the ambition of the two Soweto giants vs Masandawana.

Both Amakhosi and the Buccaneers did not make any signings this January, while Sundowns confirmed the arrivals of Teboho Mokoena and Surprise Ralani, while Erwin Saavedra’s deal is also close.

“Maybe the question is do they want to compete with [Sundowns]? We’re busy saying ‘teams want to compete’, but why are they selling,” Modise said when asked by iDiskiTV why Chiefs and Pirates are allowing their main competitor Sundowns to open such a huge competitive gap.

“Maybe chances are they don’t want to compete. Also Sundowns have been dominant for the past 10 years.

“For them [Chiefs and Pirates] to start their own dominance they need to start somewhere. They need to sign their own players.”

Mamelodi Sundowns have won a PSL record four league titles in a row and are on track to extend this record to five in 2021/22.

They currently enjoy a fourteen point gap at the top of the DStv Premiership log and are on the way to sealing their 5th consecutive league title.
