After the weekend’s fixtures, Hungry Lions moved top of the GladAfrica Championship on Sunday, and remain the only unbeaten team in the competition.
Eight matches were played on Saturday and Sunday, and there were no draws in any of the weekend’s results.
On Saturday AmaTuks handed Platinum City Rovers their second successive heavy defeat as they lost 4-1 in Tshwane. Luvoyo Phewa scored a brace, while Tebogo Mohlamonyane and Simnikiwe Mbonde also scored for Tuks
The result sees City Rovers drop from top spot, as they were overtaken on goal difference by fellow rookies Hungry Lions, who beat Free State Stars 1-0. The Northern Cape team are now the only unbeaten side in the league, and top of the table.
In a day of wins for the home teams, there were victories for Venda Football Academy, who beat Uthongathi 1-0, JDR Stars who were 2-0 winners over TS Sporting (Malebogo Modise and Ismael Wadi scoring), and Richards Bay, who beat Tshakhuma 4-0, Siphelele Magubane, Somila Ntsundwana, Sibonginhlanhla Mthethwa and Vusi Mngomezulu scoring the goals.
On Sunday Cape Town Spurs picked up their first win of the season, as they beat Black Leopards 2-0, with Chico Bunga and Igor De Oliveira scoring the goals.
Meanwhile Polokwane City lost 1-0 at home to Cape Town All Stars 1-0. (*This result had been incorrectly attributed to Polokwane City earlier but has since been updated by the PSL.)
Meanwhile Pretoria Callies added to Jomo Cosmos’ woes as they won 2-1. Edmore Chirambadare and Philani Cele scoring for Callies, while Lucas Fernandez scored for Cosmos.
