TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs played to a goalless draw in their DStv Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday evening.
Tshegofatso Nyama had a chance for Galaxy in the 8th minute, but his low shot from outside the area went straight to Bruce Bvuma.
Samir Nurkovic had a good chance in the 24th minute, but new Galaxy goalkeeper Vasilje Kolak pulled off a good stop to deny the Serbian. Phathutshedzo Nange went wide wide in the 38th minute, and so did Khama Billiat five minutes later, this time from a free kick.
Wayde Lekay had a chance for Galaxy just before half-time, but it was also off target and at the break it remained goalless.
The second half saw a similar competitive edge, but neither team were creating clear cut chances, Billiat’s effort in the 68th minute was off target, while Shaun Mogaila had a try from outside the box in the 72nd minute, but his effort went wide.
Bvuma had to make a save in the 77th minute, as substitute Mohammed Anas’s attempt was on target, while there was a good chance for Keagan Dolly in the 85th minute, but Ebrahim Seedat made an excellent last ditch tackle to deny the Chiefs substitute.
And at the end of the ninety minutes, the teams had to be happy with a point a piece.
Meanwhile it was a losing start for Royal AM as they made their DStv Premiership debut at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon, losing 1-0 in dramatic form to Swallows.
In fairness, while it was a debut for the new club, the team strongly resembled the club they bought, Bloemfontein Celtic, with the technical team and starting line-up almost all coming from the now defunct Free State club. Only new signing Elias Pelembe and former Royal AM (and former Celtic player) Kabelo Mahlasela weren’t part of Phunye Sele Sele last season.
But it was almost a game to forget, for both teams, with just a few shots at goal through the 90 minutes, all by Swallows. Even their first shot on target only came in the last ten minutes. But the one that counted came in stoppage time, as Strydom Wambi grabbed a last minute winner for Brandon Truter’s team, heading in Keletso Makgwalwa’s cross.
DStv Premiership action resumes on Tuesday as Chippa United hosts Mamelodi Sundowns, and Marumo Gallants welcomes Orlando Pirates.
