Retired former midfield maestro Andile Jali believes the 2026 Nedbank Cup final can deliver even though the finalists aren’t the traditional big sides.
This season’s final will be contested by Durban City who only returned to topflight football in May 2025, and TS Galaxy who won the competition in 2019 while they were still playing in the First Division.

Last season’s final provided the sold-out blockbuster Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. By Friday night, tickets for the final in Polokwane were still on sale.
Meanwhile, Jali told iDiski Times that he knows what it’s like to be in the Ke Yona final with a less fancied side and he hopes both City and Galaxy will come to the party at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
“I think it can deliver because it’s a long weekend and everyone wants to watch football,” Jali told iDiski Times.
“So, I hope people that love football they’ll come and support these teams. As you said last year was the big one and then now it’s this one. Me, I have been there I know how it feels to be called a smaller team. But I hope these teams they can come to the party on the day.”
The tournament Ambassador further expressed his joy at seeing South African coaches Pitso Dladla and Bernard Parker in the final saying it speaks well for the growth of South African football.
“I wish the two coaches well, for them to do well so that they can keep their jobs that’s the most important thing,” added the former South African international.
“They are here as South Africans and if you are here [in the final] they are growing and that’s good for South African football.”
