Khalil Plays Down Derby Pressure

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has downplayed the pressure of the upcoming Betway Premiership Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates, saying at the end of the day it’s worth three points like other matches and won’t distract his side from their targets.

The sides meet in a must win encounter on Sunday at the sold out FNB Stadium looking to main the momentum with both coming in on the back of respective six game unbeaten runs. Chiefs who are the visitors in the clash lost the first round meeting 3-0 in February and are currently third on the standings with 46 points in 24 outings.

Meanwhile the title chasing Buccaneers are sitting in pole position with 58 points in 25 matches, one point from the cashing Mamelodi Sundowns who have a game in hand.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday Ben Youssef acknowledged the magnitude of the occasion that is the derby however, pointed out that it’s worth three points and Amakhosi won’t get carried away and start thinking about other things.

” It’s only three points,” said Ben Youssef.

“It’s only three points. If we win, will they give us the title? Or give us six points that would change something? But for us, like I said, it’s a league game, yes, it’s a derby, who will be the first team in Soweto will be us or them, but like I said, it’s a league game.”

“Our target is clear from the first of the season; we don’t have to change our target. You win one game, you start discussing about winning PSL, you lose one game, you start to destroy everything. The target is the same, we discussed that we have to be in the group stage in CAF, we did it, unlucky in the last moments we did not qualify. It was about goal difference.”

“We said that minimum, we have to be number three in the PSL, and we are there now. That’s the most important thing to think about our performance. We don’t have to make it big or small, this game is a derby, it’s a big, very important game, a crucial game, but finally it’s three points.”
