Larsen – It’s A Fairy Tale

Clinton Larsen, coach of KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe side Summerfield Dynamos, says reaching the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals is a fairy tale.

The former Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic coach, who has already led Dynamos to the provincial ABC title, guided his team to the last eight after they beat Black Eagles in Sunday’s last sixteen game.

Larsen said it was a tough match, but felt his team deserved the victory.

“Ja, difficult game, we know they’re a quality outfit, they’re on top of their stream in the North West and we were expecting a tough game,” Larsen said after the win.

“A lot of experience, ex PSL players within their ranks as well.

“But I said it’s not about them, it’s about us and we weathered the storm in the first half, they were playing very direct from the back, getting the ball wide swinging it in, they had big boys in the attack.

“But I thought we dealt with that quite well and weathered the storm. And in the second half, we played our football, we knew also they’ll tire, and midway through the second half their legs were gone, we started finding the spaces and creating chances.

“So very, very happy for the club, for our chairman, who’s put so much into this club, him and his family.

“And also the players have worked so hard in the league, winning the KZN championship, and now going to the quarter-final.

“I think it’s history that the club has made. It’s a fairy tale for everybody involved at the club.

“We just hope now we can go to the quarter-finals and once again, represent the ABC League and also represent our province with pride.”

The draw for the last eight takes place this evening (Monday) at 6pm.
