Royal AM head coach John Maduka praised his team’s discipline in their win over Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
Royal AM were 1-0 victors on Sunday, a result that lifts the DStv Premiership newcomers to second spot.
Maduka says it was the team’s tactical discipline that won them the game at Chatsworth Stadium.
He says they knew how dangerous Chiefs could be, but a strong defensive performance really pleased him.
“I think we played well. It was a difficult game, I think it was more a tactical game,” Maduka told the club’s media department.
“We had so many moments that we could’ve punished the opponents in the first half, but also they did have some moments that they could have punished us, but I think we dealt with them very, very well.
“I’m very happy with the way we defended, I think we defended so well. We’re very disciplined in the field of play. Because we knew that if you don’t have that tactical discipline in the field of play, the way Chiefs has been playing, they will be able to hurt us.
“And I think we did that well in today’s game. After we scored we had also a couple of chances here and there, that if we sharp enough, I think we would have been talking about something else.
“But we didn’t make use of it, we remember when Matjila had the chance, I think maybe instead of putting it across the goalkeeper, he decided to try put it the near post with the ball, I think it was saved.
“But second half we knew that they will come at us, because Chiefs have been playing well. They’re a good team, very well organised him.
“So we had to try and make sure that we defend well, we have the balance in our defence, and whenever we are defending, or whenever we are attacking, we make sure that we attack but at the same time we have the balance at the back.
“And I think we did that exactly well, and happy for the three points that we got.
“Credit to the boys, they worked very, very hard. Tactically, they were very very, very disciplined and you know it paid off today.”
