Cape Town City and Bafana Bafana left-back Terrence Mashego has revealed why he wouldn’t join Mamelodi Sundowns even if an offer comes his way.
Mashego, 23, has enjoyed a notable rise to prominence this season as he was called up by Hugo Broos for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and starred for City in their run to the MTN8 final.
While he’s admitted that it will be a good move to join one of the big three, he says it’s not the right time, as he thinks his development as a footballer would potentially be stunted.
“To be honest going to Sundowns would be an opportunity, it would be a big thing because Sundowns is a big team, and they are challenging,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SA FM.
“But on the football fans, like to be fair, I don’t think I might consider that offer because they have Lyle Lakay, they have Aubrey (Modiba) and also Sifiso Ngobeni, of which they are doing good.
“For me to go there, it will be difficult for me maybe to get game time because of the new environment. And already they have Lyle Lakay who has been playing, so I don’t think I will consider that move like now.”
Mashego was one of TS Galaxy’s key players in the GladAfrica Championship and won the Nedbank Cup before he moved to the Citizens in 2020.
