Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango who will be with his side when they take part in the Champions League group stage says he and the team will be aiming at winning a second title.
The Tshwane giants won the competition for the first time in their history in 2016 after beating Egyptian giants Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate, with Onyango featuring in the historic two-legged tie.
The 36-year-old is now hopeful the team can withstand the challenge from other big teams to win the trophy once more before he hangs up his gloves.
The Uganda legend has been serving well at Masandawana for the past decade and is still keen to contribute more through his experience at the club.
“I have been at the club for a very long time, but as I have said before, I am just trying to give back to the club that has looked after me for the past ten years,” Onyango told the club’s website.
“Even in those few years when I was not playing first team football, the club did not abandon me or sell me, they believed in me and kept me at the club.
“Of course, the ambitions and the targets of the club and the Chairman are that we want to get the biggest trophy on the continent and this is of course the CAF Champions League.
“I have won it once in 2016, but I want to make history and win it again, this keeps me going.
“What’s important is to stay focused on the targets of the club, and look after me as a person, and to know that I have a responsibility to help the club win as many trophies as possible.”
The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup group stage will take place tomorrow in Cairo, Egypt.
