Mashiane – Chiefs Want To Avenge Royal AM Embarrassment

Kaizer Chiefs defender Happy Mashiane has insisted his side want to make things right after their embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Royal AM when the teams last met.

Amakhosi enter the game on the back of four wins in their last five games, but had two fixtures they couldn’t honour in this run due to a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena.

However, they returned with a win against Sekhukhune United with a much-changed line-up and will have even more senior figures ready for their clash against Royal AM on Sunday, trying to set the record straight after their 4-1 humiliation in the reverse fixture.

“Regarding the first match against Royal AM, that was an embarrassment for us, because we know very well that we are playing for a big team, we can’t concede four goals at home,” he told the club’s media department.

“Now we have to go there and fight, so that the same thing doesn’t happen to us and we are ready for the coming game.”

Mashiane also opened up on the tough start to the 2021/22 campaign and returning to the starting XI against Sekhukhune.

“The start of season was not nice, knowing that we’re coming from a big, big setback,” he added.

“And we managed to pull together so that we can at least correct the wrongs that we did. The start of the season wasn’t that great because you could see that people weren’t ok, because you could see that people are still not ok, coming from that setback.

“Playing is a nice feeling, it’s been a while, so I’m glad that I managed to get some minutes. It’s something that I have to be consistent in and I have to work hard so that I can get some game time.

“I’ll take it one game at a time and I’ll make sure that I do my level best, knowing very well that there is still room for improvement.

“Playing against Sekhukhune and contributing to one of the goals is something that I know I can do better.

“Hence I’m saying there is still room for improvement. I have to make sure that I leave a mark whenever I get a chance to play.”
