Mbule’s Agent Confirms Chiefs Interest
The agent of Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United midfielder Sipho Mbule has commented on interest of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in his client.
Reports in local stated that Mbule had signed a pre-contract with Sundowns, but Supersport CEO Stan Matthews already squashed those in an interview with iDiski Times, edition 21.
Mbule’s agent Mike Makaab now told this publication that there is no truth in rumours the 23-year-old signed with Downs and the club wants to wait until after the Olympics before making a decision on the player.
“Yeah, Stan is absolutely correct. There’s no truth in the matter that he signed the contract with Sundowns,” he said.
“He is contracted to SuperSport United on a long-term contract. And whilst there is a lot of interest in the player locally, we’re also looking at opportunities for him abroad.
“We have to respect the fact that he is a SuperSport player, and we want him to focus his energies on the upcoming Olympics. It’s important for him.”
When asked about interest from Chiefs in Mbule, Makaab confirmed that Amakhosi are indeed keen on the player but not formal talks have taken place.
“Yes, there is. Yes, there is interest in Mbule,” he added.
“But again, we’ve not had formal discussions with any football club in South Africa, purely because, and I’ve said this before, out of respect to SuperSport United.”
Mbule is expected to be part of David Notoane’s Olympics squad, which will be announced on Saturday at 15:00.
