Middendorp – A Fully Deserved Win

Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp was pleased with his team’s 2-1 win over SuperSport United on Tuesday night, and says it was a thoroughly deserved victory.

In a second meeting with SuperSport in ten days, the Team of Choice was able to reverse the loss they suffered in the Nedbank Cup, and pick up a vital three points at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Middendorp feels his team showed good spirt and deserved the win.

“Ja, we were happy with the second half of the Cup game some days ago,” Middendorp told the Maritzburg media department.

“And I think we were able to continue, or start, where we left it.

“We had a sluggish period where we conceded the goal, where we were not really 100% in this aggressiveness, in this total willingness to make the result in the end.

“But in total, definitely a fully deserved win and a good spirit we have seen from our team today.”

The German coach says he is happy with how his new signings have fitted in despite not having a lot of time with the team.

“It’s all a bit difficult for each and everybody coming in such a short, not even the full preseason with us,” he continued.

“Doesn’t matter if it’s Nico Lukhubeni or if it is Friday Samu, or Macheke or Steven Pereira, first game after this rupture of achilles, fully 90 minutes, six, seven months first competitive game.

“I think each and everybody contributed really in a fantastic way, but not only the players coming in now.

“I think the entire unit was absolutely very helpful, very supportive of each other.”

Maritzburg have moved to twelfth on the table, and will play Golden Arrows next, on the 25th of February.
