Mulenga Makes Away CAF Refs Claim

AmaZulu forward Augustine Mulenga admits there are challenges with officials in away games which brings more importance to beating Horoya at home on Friday.

Usuthu’s CAF Champions League group stage debut ended in defeat in Casablanca as Raja AC edged them 1-0 in a spirited display.

Veteran midfielder Mohsine Moutaouali scored the only goal of the game and Mulenga reveals they’ve quickly learnt that home ground advantage is massive in their quest to reach the knockout stage.

“I think what we’ve learnt from that is that when you’re playing away when you’ve got… you won’t have many chances to score,” he said.

“If you can have one or two you have to use them because away games they always difficult. It’s not that we complain but you know away games, referees are difficult.

“They won’t be on your side, but when you have chances, you just have to use them, maybe we can collect maximum points. We just have to be disciplined, how you mark, [reduce] mistakes.”

“Today we had our first training session and everyone is looking forward to Friday’s game and since everyone knows the importance of home games – I’m sure everyone will put out the fight to collect maximum points at home.”

Benni McCarthy’s side will face the Guinea Pro League side on Friday evening at the Moses Mabhida Stadium (21h00).
