Orlando Pirates had to come from behind to beat Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.
Chippa had the first shot of the game as Thokozani Sekotlong’s attempt from inside the box was saved by Siyabonga Mpontshane after just four minutes.
The home side scored the first goal after just 12 minutes when Happy Jele played Phakamani Mahlambi onside and the the winger calmly converted past Mpontshane.
Pirates had their first shot on target but Vincent Pule’s shot from outside the box was comfortably saved by Rashid Watenga.
A minute later Pule crossed in nicely from the left side but his shot got deflected to a corner by Sandile Mthethwa.
Mabasa equalised for Pirates in the 28th minute following a superb strike on the turn inside the Chippa box.
Chippa had a chance to make it 2-1 just before the break, but Thokozani Sekotlong was first denied by Mpontshane before Mahlambi’s rebound just went past the post.
Sekotlong had another chance in injury-time after the first interval but his shot sailed over the bar after some fine control inside the box.
Pirates made it 2-1 in the 59th minute when Abel Mabaso was played in following a brilliant counter.
The Buccaneers had another chance to find the back of the net but a header by Mabasa flew over the bar in 67th minute.
Goodman Mosele made it 3-1 to Pirates in the 79th minute after he was played free in the box with a brilliant ball from Deon Hotto and put the ball past the Chippa keeper.
The result saw the Buccaneers move to the top of the log with eight points from four games.
