Pirates Secure 3rd, Chiefs In Top 8, Chippa Into Playoffs
Kaizer Chiefs secured a top eight spot, Orlando Pirates finished third, while Chippa United ended in the playoff spot, as the 2020/2021 DStv Premiership season came to an end on Saturday afternoon.
Although they confirmed their league title two weeks ago, Mamelodi Sundowns got to finally raise the trophy, after their victory over Cape Town City.
While Black Leopards’ relegation had also already been confirmed, Chippa finished in 15th position.
Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Cape Town City
Sundowns confirmed their status as champions with a 3-0 win over City at Loftus Stadium.
Lyle Lakay put the champions into the lead in the 10th minute, as his direct free kick flew into Marc Anderson’s goal.
Sundowns led 1-0 at the break.
Peter Shalulile made it 2-0 in the 76th minute, with a great individual effort, a good first touch saw him slice through the defence before unleashing a shot that was out of Anderson’s reach.
Five minutes later Shalulile got his second, as he made no mistake after getting onto the end of Thapelo Morena’s ball
TS Galaxy 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs picked up a big win, their second in a row, as they beat Galaxy 1-0 at the Mbombela Stadium.
Samir Nurkovic’s header in the 25th minute gave Chiefs the lead, just the Serbian’s third league goal of the campaign.
Nurkovic’s goal gave Chiefs the all important win that sees them finish eighth, and qualify for next season’s MTN8 competition.
Orlando Pirates 0-0 Tshakhuma
It ended goalless at the Orlando Stadium between Pirates and TTM, but it was enough for Pirates to secure third spot,.
Chippa United 1-1 SuperSport United
Chippa and SuperSport drew 1-1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
There were no first half goals in Gqeberha, but Andile Mbenyane put Chippa into the lead in the 71st minute, his free kick beating Ronwen Williams in the SuperSport goal.
SuperSport equalised in stoppage time through Onismor Bhasera, and Chippa head to the playoffs .
Swallows 1-1 Baroka
Swallows drew their 20th game of the season as it ended 1-1 versus Baroka at Dobsonville Stadium.
Baroka took the lead in the 35th minute, as their captain Junior Gebhardt got himself onto the score-sheet.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Swallows found an equaliser five minutes into the second half as substitutes Lebohang Mokoena and Givemore Khupe combined, Khupe finishing off Mokoena’s corner kick.
Golden Arrows 0-0 Stellenbosch
It was a goalless draw between Arrows and Stellenbosch at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
There were no goals in the between Arrows And Stellies, a result that saw Arrows end finish fourth, and it was enough for Stellenbosch to avoid going to the playoffs, as they finish ahead of Chippa United.
Maritzburg United 0-0 AmaZulu
Another goalless draw, this time at the Harry Gwala Stadium, as Maritzburg and AmaZulu couldn’t be separated in the KZN derby.
Black Leopards 1-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Leopards and Celtic drew 1-1 at Thohoyandou Stadium.
Rodrick Kabwe gave the home team the lead in the 11th minute, with a cracking long range effort. Leopards would go into the break 1-0 up.
Substitute Reagan van der Ross could the equaliser for Celtic in the 73rd minute after finding himself in space in the box.
