Rulani Mokwena has backtracked on his criticism of Bafana Bafana and coach Hugo Broos in attempt to end the recent public spat.
The Sundowns co-head coach had publicly criticised the national team setup and stated the club were not happy with the state of Downs’ players after being in the Bafana camp, while also mentioning a lack of communication.
Coach Broos didn’t take this criticism light-hearted, saying he was surprised by Mokwena’s remarks.
The Downs coach now attempted to soften their public clash, saying the Belgian tactician deserves everyone’s support.
“I don’t want to get too involved in this issue with Bafana Bafana,” Mokwena said, as quoted by Kick Off.
“I think the national team coach has done exceptionally well and who am I? I mean we have got probably one of the best on the African continent in Hugo Broos.
“His reputation speaks for itself as he has won the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon.
“So who am I to question his selections or by telling him who to select. He has got experience and knows how he wants the team to play.
“Our duty is just to support him as long our players return from the national team injury-free.”
Broos will announce his final 23-man Bafana squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana on Monday, 1 November.
