Amajita made it two big wins in two, as they hammered Lesotho 6-0 in their second COSAFA U20 game on Sunday afternoon.
This followed the South African U20’s 5-0 win over Malawi in their opening Group C game.
Unsurprisingly it was South Africa, who had beaten Lesotho U20s in two international friendlies last month, who took early control, and Shandre Campbell went wide with a good chance in the 10th minute.
Jody Ah-Shene gave South Africa the lead in the 17th minute, scoring with an excellent finish after being set up by the influential Campbell.
And Campbell would show his class, when in the 24th minute he fired in Amajita’s second, a stunning long-range rocket.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic however, and Lesotho had a few opportunities, but they still found themselves 3-0 down in the 42nd minute, when a defensive backpass led to a goalkeeper error and own goal from Leluma Mofoka.
Five minutes into the second half Kutlwano Letlhaku was on hand to finish off after Ah-Shene’s initial attempt was saved to make it 4-0.
And in the 55th minute, it was 5-0 as right-back Sfiso Timba blasted in to increase the lead.
Raymond Mdaka made a whole host of subs, as Amajita managed the final third of the game. Emile Witbooi, on for just seconds, shot over in the 70th minute.
And it was 6-0 with fifteen minutes to go, as Campbell got his second, heading in from close range.
There were plenty of opportunities to make it more, but it ended with six.
South Africa can wrap up Group C on Tuesday when they face Comoros, who lost to Malawi on Sunday. Comoros and Malawi are on three points, three behind South Africa. Lesotho are bottom with zero.
