Sundowns Close In On Next Signings

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed the club are close to securing their latest signing ahead of the January transfer window.

Masandawana maintained their unbeaten run in the 2021/22 season with their 12th win in 16 games – along with four draws as they moved 15 points ahead of second-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

And they managed to achieve this against a plucky Baroka side, with ten men, after Kermit Erasmus was sent off in the opening half for dissent, just second before Rivaldo Coetzee’s opener.

Themba Zwane secured the three points late on in the encounter and despite their clear domestic dominance, Mokwena revealed they are in the process of roping in more talent.

“Every window there is work to be done. I think we are very close to concluding one transfer incoming. We are very close,” he said after the Baroka victory.

“But I’m very tight-lipped on that, the club will release a statement. But we are very close to signing a player who will be very important for us, for this season.

“We felt that we needed a bit more cover with regards to that. We don’t have that type of profile and an interesting profile. But hopefully, we can still strengthen with one or two others, not too much business in this window.

“Maybe one or two to go on loan and one or two to come into the team to try and prepare for the [CAF] Champions League.”

The Tshwane giants signed six players during the off-season, which include Pavol Safranko, Grant Kekana, Neo Maema, Sifiso Ngobeni, Divine Lunga and Thabiso Kutumela.
