Richards Bay coach Kaitano Tembo sounded unfazed by bottom side Cape Town Spurs in its pursuit of survival in their appointment of coach Ernst Middendorp that they can quickly come and draw them down because he knows this level.
Middendorp is an experienced campaigner at the PSL level, having saved Maritzburg United twice when everyone had pronounced them to have gone but, in the end, saved them.
He has been appointed to be the firefighter once more at Spurs, who are at the bottom of the DStv Premiership table with three points after 12 matches.
Middendorp’s first game in charge of the Urban Warriors over the weekend they lost to Royal AM at DHL Stadium on Saturday.
“Not necessarily,” said Tembo, when asked if Middendorp’s appointment sends shivers to his spine.
“For us what is important is to focus on ourselves, focus on our matches. It doesn’t help us to focus on other teams when we cannot save ourselves.
“For us, we have to focus on our games and whatever happens somewhere that is not our concern.”
Bay is second from the bottom with seven points behind Spurs, with the KZN club having played one more game.
Meanwhile, iDiski Times has been informed that goalkeeper Salim Magoola has been struck to be the third goalie at the club.
The Ugandan international was not on the bench as Philasande Manqele was on the sub bench and Jackson Mabokgwane was in goals as they drew with Orlando Pirates into a goalless draw at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
It was Mabokgwane’s third appearance in goals in the last three matches – losing to Stellenbosch FC, before beating Spurs before the international break.
Magoola, according to iDiski Times sources, has a huge fight to reclaim his spot as Manqele and Mabokgwane are now number one and two.
The 28-year-old Magoola, because of his belief as a Muslim, will not partake in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final against Stellenbosch FC at King Zwelithini Stadium this coming weekend, because the competition is sponsored by the SA breweries company.
