Tso – Komphela Deserves Pirates Shot Despite Chiefs Struggles

Orlando Pirates legend Tso Vilakazi has insisted that Steve Komphela deserves a chance to coach the Buccaneers despite failing to win a trophy at Kaizer Chiefs.

Rumours are heating up that Komphela is Pirates’ favourite to replace Zinnbauer during the off-season, but iDiski Times has learned that a compensation clause in his current Mamelodi Sundowns’ contract is holding up the move.

While negotiations are ongoing, Vilakazi has written about Komphela’s potential switch to Orlando Stadium in his iDiski Times column in this week’s newspaper.

Tso believes Komphela would be a fit for Pirates and says he shouldn’t be judge because he didn’t win a trophy with Kaizer Chiefs.

“It looks like Steve Komphela will be the leader of the ship at Pirates. Obviously, Steve is contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns therefore this will be a tough negotiation by the leadership of both clubs,” Tso explains in his iDiski Times column.

“I would be very happy to see Steve Komphela joining Orlando Pirates. Steve did a great job at Sundowns winning the league as part of the technical team.

“I know that a lot of people will talk about his stay at Kaizer Chiefs as being unsuccessful, but I think he deserves another shot to coach a big club. He has earned the right to coach huge clubs because he always proves himself whenever he coaches a smaller club.

“The biggest criticism about him is that he has not won a trophy as a head coach but I think its only a matter of luck. I know coach Steve and I think he is a good coach.”

For now, though, Josef Zinnbauer is still in charge of the Buccaneers and it remains to be seen whether they will fire the German tactician and replace him with Komphela.
