Tuesday’s CAF Champions League Results

Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs progressed to the CAF Champions League group stages, after good wins on Tuesday afternoon.

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 Jwaneng Galaxy

Sundowns booked their place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League, when they beat Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy 3-1, 5-1 on aggregate.

After a dominant first half, Sundowns opened the scoring through Kermit Erasmus in the 38th minute. He could’ve had a second just before halftime but his effort struck the upright.

Peter Shalulile was fouled in the box in the 49th minute, but Ricardo Nascimento’s penalty attempt was saved by Galaxy keeper Katlego Mbise.

Mothobi Mvala continued his good goal scoring form, when he headed in to make it 2-0 in the 67th minute.

Sundowns added a third through Thapelo Morena in the 81st minute, scoring with a lovely finish.

Galaxy got a consolation goal in the 89th minute after a defensive error, and Tebogo Sembowa made no mistake.

Primeiro De Agosto 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs picked up a good 1-0 away win in Angola against Primeiro to advance 1-0 on aggregate.

Chiefs started the game well, but it was a tense affair until Chiefs opened the scoring in the 41st minute, Leonardo Castro with the all important away goal to give Chiefs a first half lead.

Primeiro came out desperate in the second half, knowing they would have to score twice.

Samir Nurkovic made his long-awaited return for Chiefs, when he came on for the final 20 minutes.
