Golden Arrows moved up to third as they beat Stellenbosch 3-1, while TTM beat Maritzburg United 1-0 in Friday’s DStv Premiership action.
Stellenbosch 1-3 Golden Arrows
Arrows put in an impressive performance as they beat Stellenbosch 3-1 at the DC Stadium.
Pule Mmodi took advantage of a defensive error from Sibusiso Mthethwa and gave the visitors the lead in the 15th minute.
It should have been two in the 28th minute but Robyn Johannes did well to clear Knox Mutizwa’s shot off the line, and at halftime Arrows held the lead.
Arrows were two up in the 55th minute, as Mutizwa broke free before sending in a low cross to Michael Gumede who slid in to get it past Sage Stephens.
Argentinian Junior Mendieta pulled one back, scoring a great goal from just outside the box in the 62nd minute.
But Arrows stopped any hope of a Stellenbosch comeback, when Gumede added his second, and Arrows third.
Maritzburg United 0-1 TTM
Thabo Mnyamane’s superb free kick effort handed TTM a narrow 1-0 win over Maritzburg at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
While the home team had the better of the first half, Washington Arubi didn’t really have much to do in the TTM goal. On the one occurrence when he was beaten, the woodwork came to his rescue in the 42nd minute, denying Thabiso Kutumela, and Arubi was able to gather the ball after it failed to cross the goal-line.
Dylan Kerr, who is set to take over as TTM coach, watched from the stands, as TTM took the lead in first half stoppage time, Thabo Mnyamane scoring directly from a free kick.
It was much of the same in the second half, as Maritzburg tried to find an equaliser, and despite a late onslaught, TTM were able to hold on for the win.
The result means TTM are up to 14th, while Maritzburg drop down to 15th.
