Cape Town City remain top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, despite drawing 1-1 away against Upington City on Saturday afternoon.

Therlo Moosa had put the visitors ahead in the Northern Cape, but Neo Dikgale equalised with ten minutes to go.

City remain top (by goals scored) because elsewhere, second-placed Magesi were also held to a 1-1 draw at home against ORBIT College. Both City and Magesi are on 21 points, with an equal goal difference (+7).

However, the gap between the top two sides was closed to just one point by three clubs hot on their heels, with Lerumo Lions, Hope FC and Real Native all moving onto 20 points with good wins.

Third-placed Lerumo Lions won 2-1 at Midland Wanderers thanks to goals from Nasiphi Bhanayi and Mehluleli Maphumulo. Siyabonga Khumalo scored for Wanderers.

Meanwhile, Dilorenzo Lombard scored a stoppage-time winner for Hope against Hungry Lions in Cape Town. Hungry Lions remain in sixth place on 16 points.

Mbulelo Nombengula and Lerato Ntamane were on target as Real Native won 2-0 away at Leicesterford City, to move into fourth spot, ahead of Hope on goal difference.

There was also a morale-boosting 3-1 win for NWU over Highbury, while it ended 2-2 between AmaTuks and Gomora United, with Gomora coming back from two goals down.

Venda Football Club remain bottom after a goalless draw against The Bees. Venda and ORBIT are the only two clubs yet to win a match after ten fixtures have been played.
