Ex-Chiefs Star – How I Fell Into Hole After Leaving Amakhosi

Magesi FC winger Edmore Chirambadare has spoken about how tough it was for him when he was released at former club Kaizer Chiefs in 2018.

The 32-year-old had joined Amakhosi in 2016 from Zimbabwe’s Chicken Inn with high expectations after helping the latter clinch the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League in 2015, having scored 19 goals.

However, he struggled for game-time at Naturena, playing 23 times in the league during that spell and scoring one goal.

Chirambadare’s departure saw him find solace in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, playing for several clubs, including Pretoria Callies, Venda Football Academy and Magesi FC, who he helped gain automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership in 2024.

The player spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 154 of the newspaper, where shared how he relied on his faith during his tough times and his excitement to be back in topflight football.

“I say God is good because it was not easy,” Chirambadare told iDiski Times.

“I don’t want to lie. When I left Chiefs things did not go my way. I had to play in the NFD. I played now, I think this is my fifth or fourth season playing in the NFD.

“So it was very difficult but I just thank God for keeping me fit, for keeping me alive and giving me another chance again to be in the PSL. I really just want to say God is good all the time.”

Chirambadare also opened up on the emotions of returning to the top flight with Magesi.

“It’s a good feeling, a feeling that everyone wants, especially when you are in sport,” he added.

“You know how sport is. We all want to be champions, we all want to do well in every aspect of the game.

“I’m very excited and I’m very happy that we secured promotion with two games to spare.”
