Final Ruling On Durban City Case Revealed

Durban City have officially been crowned MFC champions and will compete in the Betway Premiership next season after an arbitration ruling found in their favour, leaving JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs with no option but to accept the outcome.

Just a week ago, the PSL Disciplinary Committee held hearings involving Durban City, JDR Stars, and Cape Town Spurs. The protest, lodged by Stars and Spurs, centred on allegations that a Durban City midfielder had been improperly registered. After two weeks of proceedings, the PSL DC ruled in favour of Durban City.

Unhappy with the decision, JDR Stars and Spurs escalated the matter to arbitration, which was heard last Friday. The final verdict was delivered today (Monday), with arbitrator Hilton Epstein dismissing the case with the costs being awarded against the appellants.

As a result, Durban City are confirmed as MFC champions and will take their place in the Betway Premiership next season, while Cape Town Spurs will be relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The resolution of the matter also clears the way for the promotional play-offs to proceed, involving Cape Town City, Casric Stars, and Orbit College.

While the exact date is yet to be confirmed, Wednesday remains the preferred option to kick off the mini-league format. It remains to be seen if a late appeal by Cape Town City delays the start.
