Milford FC moved three points clear on top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship after Durban City FC and Upington City dropped points, while Cape Town Spurs lost again.
The ninth round of MFC kicked off on Friday afternoon down in Eastern Cape when newcomers Highbury FC shocked Hungry Lions FC by 1-0 – Matome Mabeba scored the only goal.
Later in the evening, AmaTuks narrowly beat Durban City with a late goal from Luke Daniels, who is on loan from Cape Town City. The Tshwane-based side moved to eighth place.
Casric Stars came from a 2-0 down against Upington City to get a 2-2 draw away from home. Stars ended their two-match losing streak. Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Gucci dropped points for a third consecutive match.
An early goal from Prince Nxumalo sealed all the maximum points for JDR Stars in a tough battle against Pretoria Callies. The win for the Stars sent them to third place.
Black Leopards moved to second place after beating Cape Town Spurs 2-1 at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Leopards were reduced to 10-man after Thendo Mukumela received a red card in the second half but put more misery on Ernst Middendorp’s side, who have collected just one point in their last five games.
Meanwhile, Kruger United celebrated back-to-back wins, as they put four goals past Lerumo United. Kruger moved to ninth place after this win leaving second from bottom place.
