Casric Stars have moved top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship after the latest round of fixtures in the South African second tier.
Stars, who had gone into the weekend in second place but level with Polokwane City on points, moved about Rise and Shine, after they beat Baroka 2-1 on Sunday, thanks to a winner from Keletso Sifama, in his first game since joining Casric on loan from Kaizer Chiefs. Kgomotso Mosadi scored the other, his ninth of the season.
City were held to a goalless draw on Saturday by third-place Cape Town Spurs and Casric are now two points ahead.
Casric, who bought Free State Stars’ franchise at the end of last season, are coached by owner Bucs Mthombeni. His assistants are former pros Thabo Nthethe and Paulus Masehe.
Also on Saturday, Hungry Lions moved up to fourth, after their 2-1 win over JDR Stars. There were also wins for AmaTuks, who beat Uthongathi 2-1, and Platinum City Rovers, who won 2-1 away at Tshakhuma.
On Friday an injury-time goal handed Magesi a 1-0 win away at Venda Football Academy, while La Masia added to bottom-placed Black Leopards’ woes, as they won 2-0.
Meanwhile, also on Sunday, All Stars and Pretoria Callies played to a goalless draw.
