Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has made a bold claim that his side will be the first team to win the MTN8 title with a prize money of R10 million.
Masandawana welcome Stellenbosch FC to the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening in the first of a two-legged MTN8 semifinals clash as they look to go on and win it this time around after falling at the last hurdle in the 2023/24 season.
The Brazilians last clinched the Wafa Wafa Cup back in 2021/22, and the former Golden Arrows mentor believes that his charges can go all the way and be the first team to walk away with the hefty cheque after it was increased from R8 million to the current prize money.
“I think I was the first one to win the MTN8,” Mngqithi told the media at an MTN8 presser.
“And I think again, we are also going to be the first ones to win it with a price tag of R10 million.
Last season, Mngqithi was on the losing side as they lost 3-1 on penalties to Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The clash between Sundowns and Stellies will start at 19:00.
