The MTN8 quarter-final fixtures were confirmed after a dramatic ending of 2024/25 season in Betway Premiership.
This comes after Lamontville Golden Arrows didn’t make it, which was a tough ask because they needed to score five goals in their final 45 minutes against SuperSport to sneak into the top eight.
League champions Mamelodi Sundowns will face their hoodoo team Richards Bay, with the Natal Richboyz participating in the MTN8 for the first time since gaining promotion to the elite league after finishing 2024/25 in eighth.
The MTN8 defending champions Orlando Pirates will face Polokwane City. The Buccaneers have won this trophy three times in a row and have a chance to win it for the fourth time. Meanwhile, Rise and Shine will look to go as far as reaching semis after they lost in the quarter-finals to Sundowns last season.
2024 finalists Stellenbosch FC will aim to go a step further but they will first battle with AmaZulu FC who return to the tournament after a two years absence. The Cape Winelands side lost to Pirates in last year’s final, while Usuthu last participated in 2022 when they lost in the final to Pirates.
Sekhukhune United will be participating in the MTN8 for the second time in their history. Babina Noko lost in the first round last season to Cape Town City and later this year they face TS Galaxy with hope that they can at least go to the next round.
MTN8 quarter-final fixtures:
- Mamelodi Sundowns vs Richards Bay
- Orlando Pirates vs Polokwane City
