Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has hailed the arrival of Zambia international Gamphani Lungu, revealing the forward was already considered part of the Buccaneers family after helping them secure the league title last season.
Lungu joined Pirates from Siwelele after playing a key role in their title-winning campaign, most notably scoring a hat-trick against Mamelodi Sundowns in a crucial clash last season.
That performance helped Pirates secure a vital victory over their title rivals, and Ouaddou believes Lungu’s familiarity with the club made his transition into the squad particularly smooth.
“This boy helped us to win the title last season, so you know, I was not surprised when he came here, he was very excited and happy to join such a big club, from last season he was already part of the family,” Ouaddou said.
The coach explained that Lungu has quickly settled into his new surroundings and has already embraced the demands of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country.
“So he integrated very well, he’s giving his best,” he added.
“I always say you short or long time for recruits when coming into a new club, but with him we opened our heart to him and he was part of the family – it’s like he’s been here long a time.”
Lungu’s arrival provides Ouaddou with another attacking option as Pirates look to build on their success from last season, with the coach clearly confident that the Zambia international can make an immediate contribution.
For Ouaddou, however, Lungu is more than simply a new signing. His contribution to Pirates’ title triumph has already earned him a place within the group, making his integration into the squad a much easier process.
