Stellenbosch FC‘s MTN8 semi-final with Mamelodi Sundowns looks set to be played outside the Western Cape.
Stellies eliminated TS Galaxy in the quarter-final of this year’s Wafa Wafa Cup at Danie Craven Stadium, but the pitch was not in a good condition, as the field had hosted U20 International rugby matches in the previous weeks.
Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic complained about the pitch after their loss and mentioned that the game shouldn’t have been played there.
Information received by iDiski Times states that Danie Craven Stadium as well as Athlone Stadium have been ruled out for the semi-final, as the latter is also still under maintenance and being prepared to be ready for when the league starts next month.
Meanwhile, DHL Stadium is set to host The Rugby Championship clash between the Springboks and New Zealand on 7 September, which is the following week after the MTN8 semis, and the preparation for the clash will start a week before.
This leaves Stellies with little to no choice but to play their home game away from home. This website understands Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium is now the front-runner to host the second leg, which will be played between 31 August and 1 September.
