Tinkler – How City Will Play Vs Pirates

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler says his team will play without fear when they take on defending MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

City hosts the first leg at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday, before facing Pirates at Orlando Stadium on the weekend in the second leg.

The Citizens hosted a media day on Thursday, and after a light training session, Tinkler address a room full of journalists about the challenge of facing Pirates.

The former Pirates coach said that his team know it will be a big challenge to get past Pirates, but he feels his team have been showing a lot of confidence, and they will look to take the game to their opposition.

“Ja, we hope we obviously get as many people in the stadium as we have here, I think that’s very important,” Tinkler told a full house at the media day.

“Obviously, it’s a big club that we’re playing against – Orlando Pirates. Obviously a team that, over the past couple of seasons, have obviously won this competition.

“Not going to be easy, but we’re going to go out there, back ourselves, play with a lot of confidence, a lot of self belief, and look to take the game to them. We’ve got to go out there play without fear.

“And so far, I think the preparation has actually been very, very good, and I think the players are actually looking forward to the opportunity to play against such a big club like Pirates.

“Won’t be easy. We know. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be about who wants it the most.

“But yeah, an opportunity for us to try and get into that final and obviously we start that task with a game at home, so players are in good spirits.”

The match at DHL Stadium will kick-off at 19:00 ahead of the second leg scheduled for Saturday, August 31, at Orlando Stadium.
