Arendse Left Proud Despite Costly Misses From Saile and Co

SuperSport United assistant coach Andre Arendse was left proud with the efforts of the players but admits they had enough chances to be in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

SuperSport were starring at defeat with the game going into second half additional time at 2-1 after first half goals from Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Terence Dzvukamanja and Evidence Makgopa in goals that were all part of defensive mistakes.

However, a piece of individual brilliance from Gape Moralo sent the game into extra-time and Christian Saile could have put them into the next round but failed to find Bradley Grobler who was clean through on goal.

The DR Congo forward eventually saw the spot kicked saved by Sipho Chaine in sudden-death before Goodman Mosele won it in the 5-4 shootout victory for the Buccaneers.

“I feel for them, I don’t know who’s more tired, the players or me – I kicked every ball with them, headed every ball with them, but they gave me so much to proud of today, so much to be proud of and it’s all we can ask for from the players,” Arendse said.

“There was a moment where we gave the ball away too cheaply but they gathered themselves and they defended well when they needed to against a team like this; who is. ball possession team, they will hurt you if you don’t press them the way you should press them.

“I think we got it 100% correct today, we had chances, it could have easily been two or three, four for us; Lungu missed one in the beginning, Saile was through on goal and could have passed to Bradley – so we had those opportunities. There’s so much we can take from it in the build-up to the next game.”

SuperSport will now turn their attentions back into the league, with the club now unable to secure silverware this season.
